HOW HAS THE RECENT EXECUTIVE ORDER AFFECTED YOUR MATERIAL DONATION NEEDS?
Whatever the courts decide about President Trump's executive order, we expect a lower number of refugee arrivals between February 2017 and October 2017 than in past years. We also had a great surge of in-kind support during the last Christmas season. Thus, our need for standard welcome kit items for new families has decreased. We also have limited storage space. So the best way to support new families through in-kind donations is to purchase items from our critical household needs list on Amazon.
DO YOU NEED VOLUNTEERS TO ASSEMBLE WELCOME KITS OF DONATED ITEMS FOR NEW FAMILIES RIGHT NOW?
No. The only welcome kit items we are collecting are through the Amazon link above.
CAN I DONATE ITEMS FOR REFUGEE FAMILIES WHO ARE ALREADY HERE?
Yes! However, ONLY items from this list. We are directing some material items to provide extra support to refugee families who arrived in the last 6-12 months, and we need the following things:
- collapsible grocery carts
- floor rugs/area rugs (new or nice condition)
- body lotion
- tea kettles
- serving tray for tea
- winter boots (mens, womens childrens)
- pack ‘n plays
- bed bug protection mattress covers (new only, size twin and full)
CAN I DROP OFF HOUSEHOLD ITEMS AT WORLD RELIEF CHCAGO?
Yes, but as ONLY the items listed above, please. Unrequested items make extra work for us and take away from our ability to help refugee families. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to inquire about dropping off an item/items on this list.
WHAT HOUSEHOLD ITEMS ARE NOT HELPFUL?
These items are commonly dropped at our office, but are NOT helpful. Please do not bring them: toys, baby-related accessories other than the ones listed above, electronic equipment (including stereos and old TVs that require a converter box), wall hangings, purses, houseplants, old shoes, (lightly used winter boots are acceptable).
CAN I DROP OFF CLOTHING DONATIONS AT WORLD RELIEF CHCAGO?
