Intensive Daytime ESL (English as a Second Language) Classes

World Relief-Chicago provides intensive, life skills English language classes for newly arrived refugees and immigrants. These classes meet twenty hours each week (Monday- Friday 9am-12pm. with the exception of Tuesdsays from 9am-1pm) in eight-week cycles at our office in Albany Park.

Evening English Classes

World Relief Chicago offers non-intensive English classes for immigrants and refugees in Albany Park. These classes meet six hours per week (Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm-9pm). Classes run in ten week cycles from September-April at our office in Albany Park.

In-Home Tutoring Program

Language barriers and loneliness are often two of the greatest challenges faced by refugees new to our city. Our in-home tutoring program matches trained volunteers (ages 18 and up) with newly arrived refugees. These tutors visit a refugee family weekly for one-on-one English practice. Volunteer tutors are often a newly arrived refugee’s first friends in Chicago, and refugees enable local Chicagoans to see their city and the world through new eyes. The relationships formed through this program are life-changing for both the learner and the tutor! If you are interested in volunteering with this program, contact our ESL tutor coordinator at
